Worth Noting: Phantom is a self-custody wallet, meaning you (and only you) control your private keys. Phantom the company cannot access your funds, reset your password, or recover your wallet. This is both the greatest strength and the greatest responsibility of using Phantom.

Getting started with Phantom takes less than 5 minutes. Here's how to set it up securely on any platform.
Download from Official Sources Only
Always download from phantom.app or the official app stores. Never click Phantom links from DMs, emails, or ads — phishing clones are extremely common. Verify the URL carefully: it's phantom.app, not phantom-wallet.com or phantomwallet.io.
Create a New Wallet
Click "Create a new wallet" and set a strong password. This password encrypts your wallet locally — it's different from your recovery phrase. Use a unique password you don't use anywhere else.
Back Up Your Recovery Phrase
Phantom will show you a 12-word recovery phrase. Write it down on paper (not digitally!) and store it in a secure location. This phrase is the ONLY way to recover your wallet if you lose access. Anyone who has this phrase controls your funds.
Fund Your Wallet
Copy your wallet address (starts with a Solana base58 string) and send SOL from an exchange or another wallet. You can also use Phantom's built-in on-ramp to buy SOL with a credit card or bank transfer via MoonPay.
🚨 Critical: NEVER share your recovery phrase with anyone. Phantom support will NEVER ask for it. No legitimate service, airdrop, or dApp will ever need your seed phrase. If anyone asks for it, it's a scam — 100% of the time.

💰 Tokens Tab
Your home screen showing all token balances with real-time USD values. Tap any token to see its price chart, recent transactions, and options to send, receive, or swap. Hidden tokens appear in a separate "hidden" section.
🖼️ Collectibles Tab
View all your NFTs organized by collection. Phantom renders NFT artwork directly and shows floor prices from Tensor/Magic Eden. You can send, burn, or list NFTs directly from this tab.
🔄 Swap Tab
Built-in DEX aggregator powered by Jupiter. Swap any Solana token with competitive rates, adjustable slippage, and MEV protection. No need to visit external DEX sites for most swaps.
📋 Activity Tab
Full transaction history with parsed, human-readable descriptions. See swaps, sends, receives, NFT purchases, and program interactions. Filter by type and click any transaction to view on Solscan.

🔄 Swapping Tokens
Phantom's built-in swap feature routes through Jupiter's aggregator, finding you the best price across all Solana DEXs. Here's how to use it effectively and what settings to adjust.
Basic Swap
Navigate to the swap tab, select the input token (what you're selling) and output token (what you're buying), enter the amount, and hit swap. Phantom shows you the route, price impact, and estimated output before you confirm.
Slippage Settings
Tap the gear icon to adjust slippage tolerance. For SOL/USDC and major tokens, 0.5% is usually fine. For memecoins and low-liquidity tokens, you may need 1-5%. Phantom now defaults to "Auto" slippage which adapts to the token's volatility.
Priority Fees
During congestion, increase the priority fee to land your swap faster. Phantom offers Low/Medium/High/Turbo presets, or you can set a custom amount. The "Turbo" setting usually ensures inclusion within 1-2 slots.
Phantom Swap Fees
Phantom charges a 0.85% fee on swaps through its built-in feature. While this is a convenience fee for in-wallet swapping, you can avoid it by using Jupiter directly through your browser.
💡 Pro Tip: For larger trades (over 5 SOL), it's often worth opening Jupiter directly at jup.ag and connecting Phantom. You save the 0.85% convenience fee and get access to limit orders and DCA features not available in Phantom's native swap.
🔐 Security Settings
Phantom includes several security features that many users overlook. Configuring these properly is essential for protecting your assets, especially as your portfolio grows.
Transaction Simulation
Phantom simulates every transaction before you sign it, showing you exactly what will leave and enter your wallet. This catches malicious transactions that try to drain your tokens. Never approve a transaction that shows unexpected outflows.
Burn Spam Tokens
Scam tokens regularly appear in Solana wallets. Phantom lets you burn these by selecting the token and choosing "Burn Token." Never interact with unknown tokens by trying to swap them — some are designed to drain your wallet when you approve the transaction.
Trusted Apps Management
Go to Settings → Trusted Apps to see every dApp you've connected to. Regularly revoke access for apps you no longer use. Each connected app has some level of permission to request transactions from your wallet.

⚠️ Warning: Be extremely cautious when a dApp asks you to sign a "message" that looks like a transaction or contains encoded data you can't read. Legitimate sign-in messages are plain text (e.g., "Sign in to Magic Eden"). Anything else could be a malicious transaction disguised as a signature request.

Multiple Accounts
Create multiple accounts under one wallet for different purposes — a trading account, a long-term holding account, and a dApp interaction account. This isolates risk so a compromised dApp connection only affects one account.
Address Book
Save frequently used addresses to avoid copy-paste errors. One wrong character in a Solana address means your funds go to the wrong wallet permanently. The address book eliminates this risk for recurring transfers.
Token Watchlist
Add tokens to your watchlist before buying them to track prices directly in Phantom. Useful for monitoring potential trades without needing external portfolio trackers.
Custom RPC Endpoints
Settings → Developer Settings → Change Network lets you set a custom RPC endpoint. Using a premium RPC (Helius, Triton) can dramatically improve transaction success rates and speed compared to the default public endpoint.
Burn & Close Accounts to Reclaim SOL
Empty token accounts still cost ~0.002 SOL in rent. Go to Settings → "Close empty accounts" to reclaim this SOL. If you have hundreds of old token accounts, this could return a meaningful amount.
